Workshop Opportunity
CANDIDATE QUALITIES
The
following qualities represent the kind of knowledge,
interest and experience we will be seeking in successful
candidates. To some degree, the qualities are
interchangeable between categories. In addition there
are a few prerequisites common to all areas and they
involve inherent talent, commitment, and a collaborative
and communal team spirit.
PRODUCERS:
Organizational ability
Financial experience
Strong communication skills
Understanding the complexity of issues
Creative and artistic appreciation
A practical awareness
DIRECTORS:
An understanding of narrative and storytelling formats.
Writing experience and ability
Communication and control of situations
Acting or performance experience
A creative and artistic style or sense
Photographic or recording experience
WRITERS:
Work samples that show a strong narrative, structure &
storytelling ability
Understanding the intricacies of character, form and
action
Having an ear for dialogue
A sense of timing and pacing
A practical sense of dramatic staging
Budgetary considerations
ACTORS:
Film, television or stage experience
Ability to adapt and improvise
Able to understand characterization
Any body type (we’re looking for actors not models)
Understanding differences between film and theater
acting
Ambition but not attitude
SET DESIGNER:
Knowledge of art history and style
Drafting/drawing ability, knowledge of tools and
materials
Practical understanding of construction and painting
technique
A sense of environment and atmosphere
Strong visual sense
Samples of creative work, sculpture, construction,
fabrication etc.
CINEMATOGRAPHERS:
Photographic experience, both still and moving
images
Personal films and video – live action and animation
Technical knowledge of video or film cameras and
videography
An understanding of composition and photographic
aesthetics
Knowledge of cinema and television production
Professional experience
Strong visual sense
WARDROBE DESIGNER:
Knowledge of the history of fashion
The ability to sew and fabricate costumes
Drawing skills
A sense of character revelation through costume
The ability to work very closely with actors
LIGHTING &
RIGGING:
Knowledge of films and television programs with regard
to lighting
An electrical, mechanical or technical awareness
A sense of what lighting is and what it can do
A practical sense of basic construction
Organizational ability
SOUND
RECORDING:
An awareness of the roll of sound in the cinema
Technical or electrical knowledge
Samples of recordings
Perceptive hearing
EDITING:
A basic knowledge of Final Cut Pro editing software
An understanding of narrative and story
A sense of timing and pacing, technical ability
